Over the years of working in my agency, I had a handful of clients that I really loved to work with.
One of them was Mike Quinn of the 911 Collision Centers. He taught me a lot.
One day I got a call from him and he said in his thick Philly accent, “Mike, come to Chicago.”
He was inviting me to attend his quarterly “think-tank” group, made up of successful, multi-location collision center owners and he wanted me to give them a presentation about internet marketing.
Now, Mike was an awesome client and the idea of getting to work with other people that were just like him was really exciting from a personal (and financial) standpoint!
BUT, I was confused.
It didn’t make sense to me why he’d be spending time with his competitors to share financials, marketing ideas, and best practices. Weren’t you supposed to keep these things a secret?
(Shows how little I knew at the time, right?)
Well, he explained to me that these people weren’t his competitors (even though they were in the same industry) because they were from different areas of the country AND as he put it, “Listen, Mike, there’s a ton of business to go around.”
Getting to sit in their mastermind meeting for a day, I walked away with a ton of ideas for my business AND their businesses were TOTALLY different from mine. Imagine what would happen if I were in a room with other agencies?
So, that was the day my deep desire to have a room of high-level agencies to share secrets was born.. and it’s what led to the birth of our Inner Circle.
