I once had a business coach who talked about the difference between building a “real” business and a “lifestyle” business.

A real business is one investors would be drawn to, and a lifestyle business is one designed to sustain a particular level of income and provide a foundation from which the owner can enjoy a particular lifestyle.

He always trashed those who sought to “only build a lifestyle business.”

For a long time, I accepted this as truth, but to be honest, it never sat well with me.

I don’t know about you, but I got into business for ME.  Not for investors.  

Above all else, I want a business that serves my family and me first.

And yes, I want a certain level of income and want to enjoy a particular lifestyle!
