Which do you think is the more important ingredient for success — the idea or the people?
I had a very unique interaction last week that has caused me to see this question in a whole different light…
So, I was cleaning out my agency office for a move. As I was loading boxes into my Jeep, this guy came up to me.
He looked kind of familiar…actually, he looked like Jerry Garcia for all you Grateful Dead fans.
As it turns out, the Jerry-Garcia-look-alike worked for one of the neighboring businesses in my office park.
We started talking a little bit, and after I told him about my agency, he asked for my business card.
He said, “I have this idea…and man, with the right people, it could be worth billions.”
..At first, I thought, “Yeah, right.”
In my line of work, people are always coming up to me with half-baked ideas and delusions of grandeur.
But then, I realized that this guy was onto something.
I mean, you can actually have a really bad idea for a business…but with the right people around you, a bad idea could (for better or worse) make millions.
On the other hand, it can be really hard to get a good idea off the ground without a little support from the right people.
So, in honor of this newfound wisdom, I gained from Mr. Jerry-Garcia-look-alike…
I’d like to give you the opportunity to surround yourself with some good people.
