I may be biased, but…
I think that agency owners are among the most resourceful people on the planet.
I’m willing to bet that the skills you have with websites and digital marketing didn’t come from some school or professional training.
You learned by figuring it out on your own.
You got your hands dirty.
You put yourself in situations where you could experiment.
And, you succeeded.
I think that is so cool. It’s such a huge strength to have in business and life! But as they say, sometimes a strength overused becomes a WEAKNESS.
For example, most superheroes are strong and capable, but their superpowers can get them in trouble too. The Incredible Hulk is strong, and that helps, but it also creates a lot of destruction. The heroes in The Incredibles use their powers to save people, but they also destroy entire cities in the process.
The same can be true in our agencies…
I see agencies use their superpower of resourcefulness when they don’t need to.
One time I had someone in our community ask me to help them figure out why the free trial they were offering to their prospects wasn’t working.
Now, there is plenty of training in our programs on exactly how to enroll clients into your services, but you won’t find any training on free trials in our programs. That’s a strategy that I don’t endorse.
So, I asked them if they had tried to sell the services using the training I had already made.
Not so surprisingly, they said, “no.”
This is how the “resourcefulness” superpower works against us. I see people join our programs and immediately start innovating before they try imitating what (we and our community) have already proven to work.
A strength overused is a weakness. Be careful with your superpower and know that you should always imitate before you innovate.
