How to Create a Roadmap for Your Agency’s Growth


An agency’s organizational chart is like your company’s roadmap for growth.

You may not realize it, but today, your agency has many different roles.  You might do all the work, but multiple roles already exist inside your growing business.  It’s just that you happen to fill all those roles.

An organizational chart shows the hierarchy of all the different positions in your company.

Try this exercise: Imagine for a second what the biggest or best web/digital marketing agency’s company & outsourcing roles might look like.  How is it structured?  Who is responsible for what, and who reports to who?

When you take the time to chart out your organization on paper, it becomes a kind of like your plan or roadmap of how you will eventually remove yourself from various roles.

The key is this: If you want to see growth in your agency, one of the skills you need to get good at is giving up roles.  

Giving up roles may not be a comfortable idea for you today, but you can decide that it is a skill that you want to get good at. And one of the best places to start is to build your company’s ideal org chart.

For example, it was pretty clear early on that I was not the right guy to be handling our invoicing or accounting.  I avoided it, so imagine what kind of impact that had on finances!  I removed myself from that role as one of my early moves in business.

Having a clear idea of what roles exist in your business today is a great way to understand the different parts that make up your business.  It’s also one of the easiest ways to see your company for what it is: A BIG company in a SMALL company’s body
