I ended up saying yes to projects that were not a “right fit” or just plain exhausted me.
Here’s how I changed it:
I developed a sales process that explained my services and offered them up like a restaurant would show their services on a menu.
More often than not, the client would just pick something off my menu.
Problem solved.
It turns out that most clients who I thought were a wrong fit were just trying to figure out how I could help them…. AND I WASN’T GUIDING THEM.
You don’t have to say yes to every project and every client request.
But, it might feel like it sometimes.
You have bills to pay, and need to keep going.
So, instead of saying NO to a client with money in hand…
- Give them a menu.
- Guide them.
- Give them choices you can (and want to) deliver.
- Rinse and repeat.
