Do you think it would be easier to just focus on ONE industry?
For a long time I thought that I would end up niching down. I was just waiting to find that PERFECT kind of client to work with over and over again.
But I didn’t.
I’d see my competitors start to focus on one industry or another and I wondered why that wasn’t happening for me?
I started to think there was something I was missing out on.
Honestly, I felt bad about it.
Until it struck me…
Even though I had not picked a specific industry to focus on, I had actually niched down by the way I was offering/delivering my set of services.
Here’s what I mean…
Instead of offering complex (aka. snowflake) type projects where everything was custom, I decided to simplify my offerings into processes that were easy to repeat for any client that came in.
I was kind of like a four-star chef who created recipes for a restaurant. Once the recipes are created any competent person could execute them.
So with these recipes in hand, I was able to not only take on any type of client, but also build a team that could support me in delivering the work. A business that no longer HAD to rely on me to do everything.
So, it turns out that picking an industry you want to “marry” isn’t the only way to get the benefits of niching down.
Another way to pick a niche is to change the focus, depth, complexity, or type of projects you take on. Even if you’re working with clients in different industries!
Over on our YouTube channel, I posted a clip from a training I did that goes into more detail about this topic. If you want to check it out, DM me on Facebook or Instagram. Mention “agency niche” so I know which resource to get you.
