Everyone is always looking for the next new thing. The next big thing that’s going to make everything easier, change your business for the better and make all your dreams come true.
I don’t blame you, I spend time on “bright shiny objects” too.
I was recently on a call and someone brought up the topic of BNI. Which is a business networking group with chapters all over the world. (There’s most definitely one or 10 in your town.) Here’s what was said, “I had my best months when I was in BNI”. I’m not doing BNI anymore.”
Wait a minute. Those two things don’t seem to go together…
1. This person was looking to grow their business.
2. They said their largest financial months were when they did BNI
3. They don’t do BNI anymore.
Are you seeing what I’m seeing? This person should probably join BNI again, right?
Well, I get it. It’s not sexy. BNI takes work and sometimes it can feel like it’s a waste of time. But sometimes, making money isn’t glamorous. The mistake is thinking that just because YOU don’t like doing something in your business means you should stop doing it.
If you don’t like doing it AND it’s vital to your business’s success and operation, you can find other people (or ways) to get it done. These days it’s incredibly rare for me to attend local networking or lead group meeting. But our agency benefits from groups like this several times per week.
Looking for new ways of growing your agency is great, but don’t forget about what has worked for you in the past. Go back to what works, do it consistently, and don’t overthink it.
