Lead Gen For Local Clients Is Hard (Do this instead)


“I’m sorry, Mike. Shut it down. Facebook ads just don’t work for our kind of business.”

That’s what a client said to me.

Not even 3 weeks later, I drove by a bus bench newly updated with that same client’s face on it.

I couldn’t believe that he thought this was a better way?!

We had generated tons of amazing leads at a low CPL. And I was getting replaced by a billboard?

Lame.

It made no sense to me.

It took a ton of work to get (and keep) good leads flowing to them, and if I’m being honest, we put more work into their campaign than we should have.

Totally frustrating.

Why did they see more value in billboards? But then it clicked… awareness.

They just wanted to create awareness for their business and let that awareness drive inbound phone calls and create brand recognition.

This is how they were used to buying advertising. I was the one getting fancy with lead generation.

So, that gave me an idea.

I started selling what I call “Billboard” and “Boomerang” ads.

Virtual billboards where we can laser-target a business' demographics…

And, Boomerang ads where we can ‘re-target’ visitors to the client’s website and boomerang them back to the site.

All of it is measured on the awareness we create and not the direct leads.

Clients love it. And it produces real results.

If you still want to do lead generation, sure go for it… but make sure you’re charging a premium for that service because it takes a lot of work to do it right.
