Break the Chains of the 50/50 Payment Model

Have you ever felt like you’re just a marionette in the hands of your clients when it comes to getting paid? Join the club! But wait, there’s a way out of this never-ending cycle, and I’m here to share it with you. So, buckle up  and let’s dive into the world of the 50/40/10 payment model.

Once upon a time, I was just like you…

I’d charge 50% upfront and 50% on completion.

While the initial half came smoothly, the second half was like chasing a unicorn. Why? Because the launch of a website depended entirely on the client’s feedback and input. So, there I was, doing 90% of the work and getting paid for just half of it. It felt like I was caught in a never-ending game of cat and mouse, and let me tell you, I wasn’t the cat!

But then, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, I had an epiphany: Why not create a new payment model? And that’s when the 50/40/10 model was born.

Here’s the gist of this revolutionary approach:

  • 50% upfront to kickstart the project
  • 40% when we start building the site
  • 10% on launch

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “But what if clients tell me to take a hike and go to my competitors?”

Fear not!  To my surprise, not a single client took offense to this new structure. And on the rare occasions when they did raise an eyebrow, I simply explained that I was invoicing them for the phase of work about to begin. Worst case scenario, I’d adjust the percentages to something like 50/30/20.

The moral of the story? Just because everyone else is doing 50/50 doesn’t mean it’s set in stone. This is YOUR business, and it’s time to take the reins.

Now, I can proudly say that if a client delays the project, I’ve done 90% of the work and been paid for 90% of it. It’s a win-win situation for both parties, and the unicorns are free to frolic in peace.

If you want to give the 50/40/10 model a shot, I’ve got your back! Send me a DM and mention “payment schedule”. I’ll send you a copy of my contract payment schedule that you can easily add to your proposals.

It’s time to break free from the shackles of the 50/50 payment model and embrace the 50/40/10 revolution! After all, fortune favors the bold, and getting paid on your terms is worth its weight in gold.
